Air Signature
Systems & Methods for Authentication Using Physical Sensors on Smart Devices
Smart devices such as smartphones and tablets require tools to protect data and other information residing in them. Such devices are now commonly used by individuals, hence the need to come up with methods to protect data is even greater. In most cases, an individual is required to enter a password or account information as a way to authenticate himself/herself to the device as an authorized user. However, smart devices are getting smaller in dimension, swipe pattern and touch pads are no longer available on these smaller smart devices. The AirSignature framework provides appropriate security level with the use of Inertia Measurement Units namely accelerometer and gyroscope. This form of authentication has 6 degree of freedoms and is similar to existing written signatures used in credit card transactions and formal documents.
Aesthetic QR Codes
We need more eye-catching designs!
We see QR Code on bus, MRT, shopping malls... BUT... How often are you attracted to scan them? QR code are widely used marketing tools in advertisements, brochures, posters, vouchers and many others. They are designed for effective decoding by computing devices, and thus visually resemble random images that do not make sense to the naked eye.
ARShop
An Augmented Reality System for Shopping
ARShop is a one-stop solution to enhance the shopping experience for users using the augmented reality (AR) technology. It provides mall and shop owners cloud-based tools to digitize their malls and shops. Owners can annotate items on their uploaded photos and further record linkage between photos and annotations. Besides, ARShop provides shoppers a mobile application to search for items in their shopping lists by taking photos of their surrounding environment. Annotations of the user-interested items are popped up on the photos using the geography information and AR technology.
freeWalker
freeWalker is a wireless, smart insole that can measure pressure distribution, acceleration and motion sequences. The smartness of this insole comes from the fact that it allows the user to continuously analyse his locomotion remotely at a low cost. It can be used for various applications, ranging from medical diagnosis (diagnosis of pathological gait), rehabilitation (fall detection), sports and entertainment.
Context-Aware Photography Assistance
This research work aims at providing real-time photography assistance to users by leveraging on camera sensors and social media content. The research is mainly focused on two different aspects of user experience in photography. In our first contribution, we developed computational models based on machine learning which can provide real-time camera guidance to users for capturing high-quality photographs. In the second contribution, we focus on location recommendation for photography to improve the experience of users at tourist locations.
PreSense
PreSense: An Assistive Presentation Self-Quantification System
We propose an automated presentation assessment system, which can be used to facilitate the improvement of presentation skills. The system operates on multimodal inputs from Web camera, Kinect sensor, and Google Glass. It processes the inputs using a deep network and outputs assessment results for a set of criteria.
